The Method
What is Zentangle®?
Zentangle® is a mindful, easy-to-learn drawing method that combines simple, structured patterns with the pleasure of creating — one stroke at a time.
You don't need to be an artist. You don't need to know what you're doing before you begin. You simply start with a line, a dot or a C curve and see where it takes you
How it works
You begin with a small square of paper called a tile and a fine black pen. Sue guides you through a series of structured patterns, known as tangles, one stroke at a time.
You don't need to plan the finished picture, and you don't erase. Instead, you follow each stroke and allow the tile to unfold.

Start with the simple strokes
At Tangled Glory, you'll discover that drawing doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, many of the patterns you create begin with just a few simple strokes.
ICSOZOE is a helpful way to remember them:
- — a dot
- — a line
- — a C curve
- — an S shape
- — an orb or circle
- — a zigzag
- — a spiral
- — a loop
Along with a simple line, these basic strokes become the building blocks for your tangles.
You don't need to create a picture or know what the finished tile will look like. You simply follow the next stroke, then the next, and allow the tile to unfold.
And somewhere along the way, something lovely happens: your attention settles, the outside noise fades a little, and you become absorbed in the simple rhythm of drawing.
Sessions are relaxed, unhurried and welcoming. Everything you need is provided — just bring yourself, a little curiosity and perhaps enjoy a cup of tea along the way.
Why Zentangle® feels different
A gentle place for a busy mind
Repeating simple patterns gives your attention somewhere quiet to settle. The rhythm of one stroke followed by another can feel wonderfully absorbing — a little like meditation with a pen.
No artistic experience required
If you can draw a dot, a line, a C curve, an S shape, an orb, a zigzag, a spiral and a loop, you already have the building blocks you need to begin.
There’s no drawing talent to catch up on. Just curiosity, a pen and one stroke at a time.
There are no mistakes
Nothing is erased. If a line doesn't turn out quite as you expected, it simply becomes part of the drawing. An unexpected mark can become an opportunity to see where the next stroke takes you.
A practice that welcomes everyone
The small tiles and simple tools make Zentangle® approachable for people of different ages, experiences and abilities. You can work at your own pace, in your own way, and create something uniquely yours.
Creativity begins with a single line.
No artistic experience required. No perfect outcome expected.
Just you, a pen and the space to begin.
